Indigenous Protection Areas give hope to Aboriginal communities

Aboriginal people have been managing Australia’s country for thousands of years. But it has only been since the early 1990’s that they have been publicly recognised and rewarded for their work through Indigenous Protection Areas. In a positive step, nearly 200,000 hectares of land in Cape York will be placed back into the hands of local Indigenous communities, in the first Indigenous Protection Area for the area.
