In 2004 the Howard Government introduced the Northern Territory intervention just before the election. Three years later Kevin Rudd campaigned on “closing the gap” and improving Indigenous health. Now, in 2010, Indigenous issues have been remarkably absent from the main political platforms of both Labor and the Coalition. Professor Jon Altman says that both parties are fairly close when it comes to policy for the First Australians.
