Simple measures like mandatory notification (to aboriginal advocacy services) have made aboriginal deaths in custody almost disappear, and in the recent death in custody case in Maitland, notification did not happen. Many other programs to engage communities and young people have shown to reduce offending, but these have not been well funded.
