The first Indigenous political party in Australia will go to the polls in August at the Northern Territory elections. With their primary policy focussing on making national service compulsory among young people.
The First Nations Party is led by son of Vincent Lingiari, Maurie Japarta Ryan, and aims to create a voice for both the Indigenous and non-Indigenous. The main party policies focus on national service, as well as removing current Federal legislation and giving remote communities control of Aboriginal affairs.
