Indigenous affairs were hit hard in last night’s budget, with more than half a billion dollars in cuts. The government will slash 500-plus programs and services down to five, claiming the current system is inefficient and encourages duplication. But Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders fear cuts will only widen the gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians.
