Indigenous people know the techniques of managing their land as well as anyone – and now that knowledge will be shared internationally, under a new network announced by Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard.
The “Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities Land and Sea Managers Network” is set to begin next year, and so far Brazil, Norway and New Zealand have all joined the project. It is based on existing Federal government initiatives such as the “Working on Country” scheme, and aims to put indigenous environmental management methods on a global stage.
