A public debate has run for many years over the merits of home ownership for Indigenous Australians living in remote parts of Australia. The ill-fated peak body ATSIC had a successful Indigenous home ownership loan scheme before it was axed by the Federal Government. But a program just kicked off in the Top End – will provide an opportunity for Aboriginal families to buy their own homes- providing they can prove their regular rent payments for two years.
