Over the years there have been many research papers written on the topic of diet and nutrition within aboriginal communities and there have been quite a few community initiatives, such as cooking classes and traditional recepie cookbooks, to improve nutrition in remote communities. However, despite the efforts, it is still expensive, and hard to find good healthy food in remote communities and the health of Indigenous people who live in remote communities continues to suffer. Infact, research found that poor nutrition contributes to over 16 per cent of disease in remote communities. The Close the Gap Campaign calls on governments at all levels to improve the life expectancy outlook for indigenous Australians and come people believe that the campaign does not focus enough on nutrition and healthy eating. So, should the government become more involved in what indigenous Australians eat?
