Indigenous health lags behind other Commonwealth countries

Australia’s athletes are limbering up as we speak, in anticipation of some significant wins this week at the Commonwealth games in Melbourne. But there’s one race against our Commonwealth counterparts that Australia is definitely not expected to win gold. A report released this week by Oxfam shows that compared to New Zealand and Canada, Australia lags significantly behind on the issue of indigenous health. the Wire spoke to Oxfam’s Executive Director, Andrew Hewett and the Labor Shadown Minister for Indigenous Affairs. Mal Brough, the Federal Indigenous Minsiter and Tony Abbott, The Federal Health both declined to comment.
