Indigenous communities will be able to resource some innovative projects through philanthropic funding, thanks to a new book explaining relevant grants and how to apply for them. Working with Indigenous and Philanthropic groups, Russell Smith has visited Indigenous communities around the country to look at projects in compiling the book – and says the book will help people to access money they often don’t realise is available. Mr Smith says most philanthropic funding is targeting areas like health and education, social justice, the arts – with a growing interest in building strong communities and youth leadership development. The book itself was funded by the Indigenous Affinity Group of philanthropists, and is available from the Victorian Aboriginal Controlled Community Health Organisation in Melbourne. Mr Smith will also be travelling to communities and helping them write grant submissions. Workshop requests can be made through Philanthropy Australia.
