Aboriginal cultural heritage workers are facing discrimination over their paychecks after a controversial ruling by Queensland’s Land and Resources Tribunal. Aboriginal cultural heritage assessors will be paid $380 a day, compared to their asking rate of $700: still less than the $1000 non-Aboriginal field workers receive. The Eastern Yugambeh group will only be paid $5000 for services – less than one fifth their asking price. Managing Director of Eastern Yugembah Ltd, Wesley Aird says they have lodged complaints with HREOC.
