The struggle for recognition in this country by its original inhabitants has been long, torturous, and is far from over. Two years ago, the Federal Government took a step towards the recognition of Indigenous people in the Australian Constitution by appointing members to a panel that will help lead the process. One of their jobs is to generate community support for the proposal, and they are currently holding public meetings around the country.
