Can you imagine what Sydney Harbour would have looked like over two hundred years ago before British settlement? One of the first things the early settlers saw when they arrived on Australia’s mainland were the Nawi – bark canoes built by the Indigenous tribes.
Nawi is also the name of a conference currently being held in Sydney, exploring the watercraft of Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It aims to share the ancient knowledge of canoe building.
