A record number of 23 Indigenous candidates stood for various parties. And although none were elected, National Indigenous Times journalist Tamara Giles says they all put up a good fight. Northern Territory Country Liberal Party (CLP) candidate Maisie Austin, says she’s disappointed that she didn’t receive more support from Indigenous voters. The Labor Party has gone back to the drawing-board to see where they went wrong on Saturday and the Australian Democrats’ vote was decimated, losing them their prized position as Senate power-brokers. As the Coalition plans to push through previously unsuccessful reforms, Aden Ridgeway blames the Greens. And he’s not the only one laying blame. Northern Territory Senate hopeful, Labor’s Wayne Connop, says both major parties have failed to take a deeper look at Indigenous Affairs – particularly health, education and income levels.
