Delegates at an Indigenous Policy development conference have heard a member of a Commonwealth advisory body suggest sending Indigenous children to boarding schools. National Indigenous Council member Wesley Aird says the negotiated removal of Indigenous children from their families may well be one of the unfortunate facts of modern-day life for Aboriginal people. He says every child has a right to a safe childhood and an education, and dismisses the claim that sending remote Indigenous children to boarding schools would create another ‘stolen generation’.
