Independent midwives lash out at exclusive insurance scheme

Midwives in private practice will be eligible for government-subsidised professional indemnity insurance from today. And later this year, most midwifery services will be covered by Medicare. It’s great news for midwives who’ve campaigned for eight years to have their services recognized. But independent midwives are outraged that the scheme won’t cover homebirth services.
