Today refugee advocates and organisations welcome the High Court of Australia’s ruling of indefinite immigration detention being unlawful and unconstitutional.
It means refugees and asylum seekers in detention centres will need to be released to be processed in the community.
But what will the Federal government do after this ruling?
The Wire’s Eduardo Jordan asked Senior Policy Officer from the Refugee Council of Australia Asher Hirsch, his first impressions about the High Court’s decision.
