The Federal Government’s decision to expand its income management program in the Northern Territory has been slammed, amid new research which shows it isn’t working. A report released today found that under the program, Indigenous people in remote communities are buying too many cigarettes and soft drinks, and not enough healthy food. It comes as the government announced a $6.5 million boost today for eye health care in Indigenous communities.
