Federal Immigration Minister Andrew Giles said he is looking into visa options for an international student after an alleged assault late last year left them with lifelong disabilities.

Devarshi Deka was left paraplegic after an alleged assault last year, and no longer eligible for permanent residency.

His father Kula Deka says his son will be better in Australia.

A Hobart man has been charged over the alleged assault and appeared in the Supreme Court on Monday via video link. He is scheduled to re-appear in court on July 31st.
