Eight protesters have been arrested and asylum seekers have commenced a hunger strike as the Government proceeded to relocate detainees at the Villawood Detention Centre to another one in remote Western Australia. The shift comes just one day before several of the detainees would take the federal government to court for leaking their personal information on a government website. Demonstrators and detainees voiced concern that the government was trying to cut off contact and support for the detainees before their court case, but the government claimed it was done in preparation for a planned redevelopment of the centre.
