The Australian Federal Police are investigating allegations against Attorney-General George Brandis for requesting the resignation of the Australian Human Rights Commission President, Gillian Triggs. But underneath the discussion of misconduct is whether executive institutions like the Commission need to have their independence better protected. Brendan Gogarty, Constitutional Law Lecturer at the University of Tasmania, said the saga is a wake up call to assess the influence the Government has over auditory bodies.
