Howard and Rudd target Christians
It’s the first of its kind in Australia: Howard and Rudd will cater to one religous group in competition for their vote tonight at the National Press Club in Canberra. Two hundred church and para-church leaders from Christian communities will listen and ask questions, while around 880 packed churches across Australia will listen via live webcast. the 2007 Make it Count event has been organised by the Australian Christian Lobby’s managing director, Jim Wallace. He explains how he devised it, while Graham Young from Onlineopinion.com.au looks at the size of the demographic being targeted, and whether the speeches will be effective in swinging voters. What would happen if the Muslim community organised the same sort of live consultation event? Ikebel Patel, President of the Australian Federation of Islamic Councils says it would be a worthy exercise.
