How Safe is your Medical Record?
Luke Horsfall, a public servant for the NT Department of Health found that his medical information had been leaked when he had been accidentally copied in an email regarding his gym membership where the gym’s committee members which included other public servants and senior police labelled him as “psychotic” and “schizophrenic.”
The Department of Health has denied leaking any personal information, however, Reece Kershaw, the Northern Territory’s Police Commissioner has admitted that some of his officers did access Mr Horsfall’s medical information without permission.
The Community and Public Sector Union of NT secretary Kay Densley says that there is an underlying issue regarding this privacy breach and that both the NT Health Department and police need to explain how this occurred.
