Palliative Care Week has again focused on the issue of whether terminal patients should be given a choice between quality of life, or the extra quantity that science now makes possible, often very uncomfortably. Dr Josephine Tiddy has nursed two husbands through terminal illness and she says that while palliative care has its place patients need to be given all the choices available and not just those that prolong life.
