Dr Sarah Maddison is co-author of a recent report called “Stifling Dissent” in which NGOs said the Howard government was using funding to make sure that they toed the line on Government policy. She says the situation will get much worse if the government controls the Senate as they will not be forced to use Senate committees to inquire into the social consequences of legislation.
