The outlook looks somewhat dire: it’s predicted by some experts that Australia’s demand for electricity will double by 2050. And climate change is receiving more and more attention, with fossil fuels copping a lot of the blame. But the future looked a little brighter to experts gathered today in Adelaide for the 3rd Annual Hot Rocks Energy Conference. Deep under South Australia, hot rocks could provide the answer; by providing geothermal energy. Federal Industry Minister, Ian Macfarlene explained how the government is taking hot rocks seriously. Chairman of the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation, Ziggy Switkowski, spoke today of his vision for a nuclear future, although he says geothermal energy also holds potential.
