Hopes for stability in Thai politics after resounding election win

Experts hope that the decisive election results announced in Thailand today will put an end to political instability in the country. Back in 2006, the Thai military and other elite sections of Thai society conspired to organize a coup that ousted former leader Thaksin Shinawatra. But now the Shinawatra family is back. 5 years later, Thaksin Shinawatra’s sister, Yingluck Shinawatra has won a resounding victory at the ballot box. Earlier today I spoke with Nicholas Farrelly, an expert on Thai Politics from the ANU’s college of Asia and the Pacific, who was liveblogging election results throughout last night.
