A group of Temporary Protection Visa holders in the NSW town on Young look set to gain permanent residency in Australia following persistent lobbying by the community. The men have expressed their desire to be a part of the community by working in the local abattoir – a job that many others refuse. Ann Belle says that immigration rules that boat arrivals since september 2001 could never achieve permanency are now being relaxed.
