Advocates fear that homelessness may increase if the government’s austerity budget is allowed to pass. The proposed changes to the Family Tax benefit and youth allowance as well as the scrapping of the Rental Affordability Scheme may be the final straw for individuals and families who are already struggling to make ends meet.

Today, the government reaffirmed their commitment to combat homelessness, but advocates say these measures are only short term and ignore the bigger picture.
