Historians and Kokoda Track enthusiasts are today outraged, after mining company, Frontier Resources, announced it may need to re-route a section of the track in order to cater for its proposed copper mine. The track, in Papua New Guinea’s south, played an important part in Australia’s war history. With thousands of people, especially Australians, now making the pilgrimage to PNG to hike the track, those opposed to the plan say trekkers will miss an important part. The Wire spoke with the Chairman of the Kokoda Track Foundation, Patrick Lindsay, to find out more, as well as Frontier Resources’ Managing Director, Peter McNeil.
