Hundreds of non-Muslim women in Australia are donning the hijab for a week and posting it on social media. They say the move is in solidarity with Muslim women, especially amidst increased violence on the street that threatens the safety of those wearing hijabs or burqas. Emma Thompson, who is also a Christian, spoke about how it is a Christian value to be welcoming to different races and religion in this country. Dr Shakira Hussein, a doctoral fellow at University of Melbourne, says the real oppression comes from the speech inside Parliament House, where politicians are trying dictate what Muslim women are allowed to wear.
