The Education Minister Christopher Pyne has wasted no time in saying he will review higher education and assess whether increasing student numbers have impacted on the quality of delivery. In 2011 the Australian Labor Party removed higher education placement limits, leading to increased pressure on the sector.

Mr Pyne has also announced he plans to abolish the compulsory Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF), which union members say is the lifeblood of university culture.
