High court silences Palm Island activist
The Palm Island case of the death of Cameron Doomadgee has taken yet another turn today, with the high court upholding the decision to stop Palm Island rioter, Lex Wotton from being allowed to speak publicly while on parole.
In two-thousand-and-eight Palm Island man Lex Wotton was jailed for rioting over the death of Aboriginal man, Cameron Doomadgee, while in police custody. After serving twenty months of his sentence Watton was released on parole under some very strict conditions, which among other things, prevented him from speaking with the media. Lex Wotton and his legal team have challenged those conditions, taking their case all the way to the high court.Today, the court unanimously ruled against the challenge, much to the dismay of Aboriginal activist, Sam Watson.
