Repopulating the rapidly emptying regional areas of Australia is a tricky policy area. The Federal Government this week announced that it would increase the number of skilled migrants allowed in to the country provided they agree to settle in country areas. South Australia is a whole state facing declining population. The SA government has welcomed the news and announced its own ambitious population target of 2 millopn by the year 2050. Anna Gillam spoke to Associate Professor Andrew Beer and local Democrats leader Sandra Kanck.
