It’s been on and off the political agenda for years, and in Queensland it’s become a major election issue. Water, our most basic need has unfortunately become a political football, and now it’s also being kicked around by mining companies. In NSW restructuring in government departments has meant less pollution reports are getting to government and says Bev Smiles from the Rivers SOS Alliance, that means mining companies are eschewing reports in their favour. Jeff Evans from the Mining Policy Institute agrees.
