Greens vie for balance of power
Over the weekend, The Greens officially launched their election campaign, setting their sights on gaining control of the balance of power in the Senate. Vowing to be responsible stewards of the balance of power, the Greens also announced they are moving towards a preference deal with Labor. The deal would see the Greens preference lower-house Labor candidates in every state except Tasmania. In return, Labor will direct its preferences to the Greens in the Senate, a scenario Liberal Senator Eric Abetz has claimed would be disastrous and lead to a mass exodus from the Australia. Greens Senator Kerry Nettle discussed what guarantees her party would give that they would use the balance of power in the Senate responsibly.
