The federal government’s troubled mining tax is under threat again today. Bob Brown has announced that, while The Greens support the mining tax, they will oppose the associated 1% cut to the company tax rate. Brown wants the mining tax profits to be spent on a dental care scheme or a rise in payments for welfare recipients. But the government says the tax cut is necessary to create jobs and boost foreign investment.
