World Refugee Day has brought the global refugee crisis back into focus, highlighting the importance of reassessing the treatment of asylum seekers.

Over the weekend The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights claimed that eight refugees have been shot by Turkish border guards as they were fleeing northern Syria.

Back in Australia, the use of offshore processing has been again criticised. The refugee issue has largely been kept out of the election campaigns by the two major parties. The Greens have tried to bring it back into the conversation, calling for a Royal Commission into children in detention centres.
