The Greens announced today that they are in support of Tasmania’s Tarkine rainforest to become a World Heritage Listed site.  Located in Tasmania’s north-west, it fulfills five of the seven requirements needed for a site to be considered.  The Federal government has made no promises to support the nomination of the Tarkine, which is why the Greens’ statement today has environmentalists excited.  Having the Greens announce their support for the Tarkine being considered for the World Heritage List before an election means that national attention will be brought to the area.  Another question has arisen for our politicians this election: How important is the preservation of Australia’s natural treasures?
