Newly released data from the ABS shows a national trend upwards in alcohol-induced deaths. The number of deaths has increased by 5.8% from 2020.
Although there is a perception that serious alcohol related diseases do not develop until after 70, this is not the case. When considering the various detrimental impacts alcoholism can have on an individual’s physical and mental health, there are many people who become alcoholics without becoming self-aware of these issues.
As such, this calls into question how Australia can approach this problem with strategies targeting industry and educational reform.
