The Great Barrier Reef may be placed onto a list of world heritage sites that are ‘in danger’ if a recommendation by UNESCO is agreed upon next month.
It will mark the first time a natural world heritage site has been placed on the ‘in danger’ list mainly because of impacts from the climate crisis.
The report emphasises that government efforts to counteract climate change and improve water quality have not been strong enough.
