Just months out from a likely state election, the Queensland National and Liberal parties say they’ve put past difference aside and have agreed to the terms of a merger. At a time when National Senator Barnaby Joyce is making big waves in the federal arena, it seems strange for the state party to lie down and play dead. Joan Adermann is the widow of the Federal National Party member for Fisher and later Fairfax, and former Fraser Government Minister, Evan Adermann. Mrs Adermann was surprised and disappointed to hear of the merger in news reports, rather than directly from the party. Film-maker and father of three, Scot McFie, has been a member of the national party for just a few months – but he too is shocked by the plan and hopes it will not pass a party ballot.
