When the Labor Party formed government they did a deal with the Greens to investigate the possibility of a universal dental health scheme that would allow anyone to access dental care, regardless of their means. The council formed to investigate that possibility has now submitted its final report to the government.

And it recommends that in the long term an extra $10 Billion dollars should be spent on the creation of a medicare-like system for the nation’s teeth. The report acknowledges that the government is unlikely to fund that kind of universal system immediately, but it recommends that the government get started next year on helping children and those on low-incomes.
