Government need to act on suicide prevention urgently

Suicide prevention experts say a Government report released last week is pointless unless immediate action is taken. They say the Government is not taking the issue seriously and with an estimated suicide attempt every 8 minutes in Australia urgent funding is needed. The nine month government inquiry recommended an advertising campaign to destigmatise suicide, training for police and paramedics and improved data collection. While suicide support groups agree with these recommendations they say enough research has been done and it’s time for the Government to start acting.
