Alcohol Management Plans have been in place in Queensland’s Indigenous communities since last year – and the state government is still fighting the persistent rumours that indigenous people living on the streets in larger provincial cities are there because the restrictions have driven them out of their home country. Kirrily Boulton spoke to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Policy Minister Liddy Clark, who said surveys have shown this is not the case. Ms Clark also refuted claims alcohol limits can only be truly successful if they are initiated by the communities themselves.
