Government continues its hardline policies on asylum seekers

After Labor and the Greens blocked the reintroduction of temporary protection visas in the Senate yesterday, the government announced to stop granting any new permanent protection visas for asylum seekers. This will affect 33,000 asylum seekers who are currently in Australia. The changes will leave them with bridging visas, that means in a state of legal limbo, without working rights, no chance of permanency and access to only the most basic financial support.
