In 1824, the Blue Mountains had been conquered and  the rich grasslands and limestone of the Bathurst plains beckoned with opportunity for colonial farming.

As squatters and settlers pushed west with their cattle and sheep in ever increasing numbers, the Wiradjuri people decided to push back and declared war.

A new book, Gudyarra  the first Wiradjuri war of resistance , documents the violent conflict that ensued.
