Gonski gone but Pyne finds $$$ for QLD WA and NT
Angry Premiers lined up to give Education Minister Christopher Pyne a piece of their mind today after he announced he will not promise so-called Gonski funding reforms after 2014. But Premiers in Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory may have been somewhat mollified by the announcement today that they will receive $230 million, to bring them in line with funding allocated to states who had signed up to Labor’s Better Schools Plan.
Christopher Pyne says the Coalition is ‘entirely honouring its election commitment maintaining the same funding envelope as Labor over the forward estimates’. But this four year period falls short of the six year funding cycle set out in Labor’s plan.
