Australians are living longer than they ever have with new statistics showing the death rate is at the lowest level on record. An Australian Bureau of Statistics report shows the annual death rate is currently about six per one thousand people. In 1989 it was nine per one thousand. Australian life expectancy has also improved. A boy born today can expect to live to 79.3 years and a girl to 83.9 years.
