Get on board: Transforming buses into homeless shelters
A Melbourne man is giving a whole new meaning to the term “bus shelter,” transforming dis-used buses into temporary shelters for Australia’s homeless.
Simon Rowe is the founder of “Sleepbus,” a non-profit organisation bringing safe and secure overnight accommodation to people sleeping rough. Already his crowdfunding campaign has raised over $90 thousand, and is attracting widespread interest in Australia and overseas. Simon is currently in the process of converting his first bus into a homeless shelter, complete with sleeping pods, animal kennels, showers and televisions. He says his ultimate goal is to provide a shelter for every homeless person in Australia.
